As a photographer, you may be asking yourself how to make money to support your passion. When I first began photography, it was a hobby for me. As the hobby grew, it soon became a business and now I am fortunate to be able to provide for my family using the tools mentioned in this article. There is an abundance of opportunities to monetize your photography — all you need is the right creative eye, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a few resources to get you started.

  1. Sell Prints and Artwork: Whether online, in local galleries, or at local craft and art festivals, selling prints and artwork is a great way to make money with your photography. Consider joining print-on-demand websites like SmugMug and FineArtAmerica, which enable you to upload your work, set a price for prints and artworks, and let them handle the fulfillment process.

2. Offer Paid Subscriptions: If you have built a following, offer your fans premium content available by subscription. You will be surprised at the number of people who lack mentors or solid advice that could help them grow heir business. Some ideas include: weekly photo tips, exclusive portfolio reviews, webinars and more. This will also help expand your network.

3. Shoot Events: One of the biggest opportunities to make money in photography is to offer services to shoot events. Events like reunions, corporate events, birthday parties and weddings bring in a lot of income for your business. The opportunities are endless here.

4. Create Stock Photo Sites: Sites like Getty Images and Shutterstock enable photographers to sell their photos for licensing. If you have a habit of capturing all types of photography, all you have to do is join one of these sites, upload your photos and sit back and get paid when someone buys the rights to your photo. Its passive income and its easy income.

5. license Your Photos: Consider licensing your photos to news. You may also offer your client the ability to purchase raw file images. A raw file is like the blueprint to your image. You are able to manipulate many aspects of a photo in a raw file such as light, color and grain. If you offer to sell your raw files, you may set your own price to fit the demand.

I hope these 5 tips help guide you to success in your career!
